Geriatrics

It is important to begin extended examinations when your pet reaches its 7th birthday as pets age much more rapidly than we do. A senior workup consists of bloodwork, which includes a complete blood count, a chemistry including twenty-six different values to assess the liver, kidney, and pancreas, and a thyroid level to assess metabolism. We also include a urinalysis which gives us important information to assess the kidneys and to look for diseases such as diabetes. Many disease processes occur and can be treated prior to your pet showing any overt signs. This workup gives us valuable information to help your senior pet live a happier and longer life.

If you have a senior pet and want to have a senior workup performed, or want more information about it, please call our hospital.
